A Parent & Student Guide to College Planning

Sunday, April 2  |  12:30 - 2:30pm  |  Room 753  |  Register

College is more expensive — and more important — than ever before, and many students come out of school with significant student loan debt and mediocre results.

In this workshop we'll speak with both parents AND students on how to properly prepare for college, including an overview of financial aid, scholarships, grants, student loans, and the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA).

Parents will receive additional information on various college saving vehicles such as state 529 plans and the Coverdell Education Savings Account (ESA) and the tax issues around both saving for and paying for your student's college experience.

Students will have a frank discussion about the importance of being invested in the process and will get tips on choosing a school, choosing a degree program, as well as a primer on the student loan debt and the challenges it creates post-graduation.

If you are a high school student or the parent of a child attending college in the next few years, you shouldn't miss this workshop.

Child care is available for ages 10 and under.
