Ruth

The Kindness of Our Redeemer

As we reflect on the remarkable faith of Ruth, we are also introduced to Boaz—the kinsman redeemer whose compassionate act transformed Ruth’s life. His kindness pointed Ruth to hope and belonging, a picture of how God, through Jesus, redeems and loves us beyond measure.

Ruth 2:20 expresses the hope Naomi felt when she learned that Boaz, their kinsman-redeemer, showed favor and protection over her daughter-in-law, Ruth:

"And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law,
'May he be blessed by the Lord,
whose kindness has not forsaken the living or the dead!'
Naomi also said to her, 'The man is a close relative of ours,
one of our redeemers'”

Ruth's story reminds me of the kindness we have been shown and given by God. In Titus 3:4-5 we are told, "But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us..." This powerful verse speaks of a love that cannot be earned by our works, but is freely given through mercy. Just as Boaz stepped forward with generosity and care, our God continually reaches out to us, inviting us to live in His grace and share that light with others.
As we begin our week, let’s show the kindness of God to those we encounter. Here are a few simple and tangible ways to show kindness

  1. Offer a Listening Ear: Set aside time to truly listen to someone who may be struggling. Your undivided attention can be a gentle reminder of God’s love and care.
  2. Extend a Helping Hand: Whether it’s assisting a neighbor with a task or offering support during a challenging time, let your actions mirror the compassion of our Savior.
  3. Share the Hope of the Gospel: Watch for ways to share your personal testimony of God’s redeeming love, and let your story be a beacon of hope.

May our acts of kindness be a reflection of the ultimate redemption we have received through Jesus.
