Emily Camplejohn Kelly - Colombia
Hello! My name is Emily Camplejohn Kelly, and I grew up going to Crossroads Fellowship and still attend whenever I am in Raleigh. I recently graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. God gave me an opportunity to start teaching in Bogotá, Colombia during the 2019/2020 school year and I have decided to stay until God leads me somewhere else. The school I work at is called El Camino Academy, and we mostly serve Colombian families but also a few missionary families. The school’s vision is to “biblically equip bilingual servant leaders to transform their world.”
I work to support our non-English-speaking students in their language learning, and I am involved in discipling students through leading a small group, building relationships with students, and leading various service trips throughout the year. I love getting to be a part in the work that the Lord is doing to prepare the next generation of Colombian Kingdom workers! I will likely be teaching virtually from the US until January, but everything is uncertain. Please pray for God's guidance as Covid-19 has created a very complicated situation for El Camino Academy and its teachers.
Outside of school, I am involved in a small church in the city that has a focus on missions to Venezuelan refugees. My church has a church plant on the border with Venezuela and works to reach the over million Venezuelans who now live in Colombia. I also have built relationships with non-believers through going to a rock-climbing gym a couple times per week. God has given me opportunities to share the gospel with my friends in the climbing community. I love living in Bogotá and getting to serve the Lord in another culture and language!
