Deuteronomy

Choose Life

As we opened the book of Deuteronomy in our Threads of Redemption series, we encountered a series of farewell messages from Israel’s 120-year-old leader, Moses. The Israelite nation stood on the brink of entering the Promised Land, yet it was well known that Moses and his generation would not be crossing over into it. Aware that his time was ending, Moses delivered a compelling series of final exhortations—words that are well worth our attention today.

There is a rhythm and a purposeful repetition in Moses’ reminders. In Deuteronomy 30:11-20, he outlines three essential ways to walk in obedience and choose life:

  1. Love God – We are called to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
  2. Walk in His ways – As Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Our lives should reflect His.
  3. Keep His commandments – We must faithfully follow the instructions found in God’s Word.

As you go about your week, I pray that Moses’ final words will echo in your heart, urging you to choose life over death and good over evil. May his wisdom inspire you to walk in faithful obedience to God!
